Founded in 1990, Lake Country Caring ("LCC") originally operated out of the basements of Waukesha County residents. In 1995 it moved to a converted home in Delafield, Wisconsin. In 2006, it moved to its current location in Hartland. The facility is open to clients three days per week to provide clothing, toys, and various household items free of charge to anyone in need.
To participate in the program, individuals register with LCC and renew every 12 months. As of June 2002, there were approximately 1700 people registered. Clients are allowed three visits per month and must live in Waukesha, Washington, Dodge or Jefferson counties.   To register, clients must bring a photo I.D. and current address
The facility is open to registered clients at the following times:
Donations are accepted Monday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
Volunteers work Monday through Saturday 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
The organization's inventory is provided solely through donations from individuals and businesses. Cash donations help to cover the cost of utilities and maintenance. The items below are available at the facility and are always welcomed from contributors.
Donations may be dropped off at the facility from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday. Cash donations may be sent to LCC's P.O. Box. Make checks payable to Lake Country Caring. All donations are tax deductible. Donations accepted 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday. Volunteers pick up, deliver and sort items, write thank you notes, and staff the facility during operating hours. LCC can accommodate any willing volunteer's preference - working with people, not working with people, working directly at LCC, working at home, on the road etc. Current clients cannot be volunteers.  There are currently more than 200 volunteers supporting the facility.
